Want to get onboard the Social Media Express? Don’t get stuck on The Platform!

I came across an online article with the headline, “65 social media platforms you need to know about!”

Already a bit cowed by the ever-changing online landscape, I was at first glance overwhelmed by this mandate, punctuated by an exclamation point, of becoming conversant with over five dozen sites.

The sites were listed in an order determined by number of followers and unsurprisingly Facebook was at the top. But many platforms in the top ten were well outside of my purview.

I’ve spoken with several marketing professionals who were equally flummoxed by the volatility and often fleeting popularity of these platforms and wondered where they should be placing their content to promote their brands.

Don’t get stuck on The Platform!

Instead of spending valuable time wondering “WhatsApp?” with your mind all a-twitter about the best place to snapchat, just remember this. Regardless of what sites are the hottest today, next week, next month, next year or five years from now, video will always be the best content to put on those platforms:

• Viewers retain 95 percent of a message when viewed in a video, compared to 10 percent when read in text.
• Video content is shared 1200% more than links and text combined.
• Viewers of online video are 64% more likely to purchase a product promoted by a video.

Your video content will always be compelling and relevant and a great fit for any platform going forward. And if you don’t have video as part of your marketing strategy, here’s a word of warning. TikTok, the clock is ticking! Without video, you’re leaving cash on the table with each passing minute. Let’s have a conversation.
